7.16.3 Release Notes

Last Updated: $action.dateFormatter.formatDateTime($content.getLastModificationDate())

What's New in Alexandria?

Get excited for these new features and improvements!

  • Import. New import settings, options for copies and titles, and a cleaner import process await you in the new version. Plus, scenario-specific documentation to get you started! See Import and Import Usage Examples for more information.
  • Advanced Search. Alexandria Researcher now offers an Advanced or Boolean Search.
  • Item Editors. Alexandria now offers simple editors for many of the primary fields, such as Authors and Subjects. You no longer need to switch to the full MARC view to add or modify most common fields.
  • Copy Labels. All copy label reports have been enhanced to offer advanced customization.

Important Information

  • Reconfigure Your Saved Item Imports. Due to changes in settings and functionality, it is necessary to review and verify your configuration of any saved item imports. Upon updating to 7.16.3, all scheduled item imports will be stopped until the settings have been verified and the schedule reactivated. Saved patron imports are not subject to this policy.

  • Review Your Label Reports. We have renamed the reports under Reports > Copies > Labels to make it easier to choose the report for your label type or your purpose. Every single one of these label reports also now has advanced customization. Because of these changes, you may find some of your Saved label reports moved to the Legacy subcategory. We encourage you to set up label reports with the new templates!

  • New Copy Location and Shelving Character Limit. For formatting and display purposes, the Copy Location and Copy Shelving fields have been limited to 16 characters. If you currently use longer terms than this they will be truncated upon update to 7.16.3. You will want to review and modify these to a useful term that is within the new limitations, and update any saved operations or processes that use them. For example, you may choose to use AMS as opposed to Alexandria Middle School.

  • New Limits for z39.50 Search Sets. The z39.50 search sets, used by the SmartMARC Title Assistant, are now limited to 5 servers in each set. You will want to review and verify the servers in your current sets and make adjustments accordingly. Remove unused servers, break larger sets up into more focused groups, etc.

Updating Your Self-Hosted Application

Data conversions from older versions may not be supported. Before updating, please check the version you're currently running.

Updating from v7

  • Running 7.15.2 or older? Update to 7.15.3, then to 7.16.3, before updating to 7.16.3.

Upgrading from v6

The process to update from 6.23.1 to v7 is quite a bit different than updating from a more recent version. Check out our v6 to v7 Conversion Guide for more information.

  • Running 6.22.9 or older? Update to 6.23.1, then to 7.17.12, before upgrading to 7.16.3

Data conversion can take up to 10 minutes for a single database of average size or longer for larger collections and Centralized Catalogs, during which time the program will be inaccessible in your browser. Do not fear; it's still working. If you're concerned, check your server logs for a progress update.

Maintenance Updates

20170614 • 20170705

7.16.3 Build 20170614

Circulation

    • Added Site Selection to the Cash Drawer Report. Corrections to patron history for items transferred from one patron to another.

Cover Art

    • Enhanced the cover art engine to prefer secure URL's. For unsecured sources we will store the image locally and serve it from the Alexandria server instead of the remote source. This avoids mixed content security warnings for hosted systems and any other systems requiring secure connections to Alexandria. Please note that Alexandria may need to reset and recheck some of the URL's upon update to 7.16.3 20170614, and some cover art may appear to be unavailable during this time-frame.

Import

    • Corrected an issue in which the incorrect call number could be used when a new title was being added without a specified title call number in the record. In this case the copy call number of the first copy should be used and propagated to the title call number, which is stored in the 900_a. Made some clarifications in the program and documentation with respect to field mapping for supported study programs.

Item Management

    • The limits for z39.50 search sets that were applied in 7.16.3 have been changed from a maximum of 5 servers to a maximum of 10 servers. Corrected an interface issue that was preventing users from changing the case of alpha characters in the call number fields. Increased the character limit for the summary field from a maximum of 1000 characters to 2000 characters. Corrected an issue which was preventing some notes from being searched in Item Management.

Reports, Utilities, Exports

    • Correct an issue which could prevent the creation of new saved operations, particularly in the Chrome browser. Titles with no copies can once again be exported.

Search

    • Corrected an issue which was preventing copy specific reservations from being made. Improved Group Search Performance.

System

    • Various reliability and performance improvements.
