What's New in Alexandria?

This update brings reimagined interfaces with never-before-seen features to Scout, Mobile search, and more.

  • Scout. Scout has an attractive new interface, which has been given numerous technological upgrades, improved functionality, added styles, and more. Now you can grow or shrink the cover art to better see your search results, and your patrons can log in to place holds.
  • Mobile. Mobile search, now fully integrated with Scout, has been updated with phones and tablets in mind. If your screen is less than 600px wide, your view will automatically shift to the mobile view. Check it out!
  • Alexandria Support Center. We've completely redesigned our Support Center, and we think you'll like what you find. It's easy to find what you're looking for with the comprehensive search feature and easy-to-navigate content trees on each page. Have a question while you're working in Alexandria? Click the Help icon to access documentation for the module you're in, just like before.

Important Information

Version Numbering Change

As of 7.17.7, we've modified our versioning scheme to better coincide with scheduled monthly updates. We now use the following:

  • 7 = Series Version; xx = Academic Year, beginning in June; yy = Month
  • For example, 7.17.11 means:
    • 7 = series version
    • 17 = 2017 academic year
    • 11 = The eleventh monthly update

Centralized Catalogs

If you have more sites than you are licensed for, contact our Sales team immediately at 1-800-347-6439. You can check this in Sites Management; the number of total sites plus the Union Site shows at the top, and the number you have licensed is at the bottom. (The Union Site does not require an additional license.)

Update to 7.17.11

New & Improved

Circulation
  • Improved keyboard behavior in dialog and roll-down windows. In most cases, the escape key will cancel the request and close the dialog, and enter key will confirm the action and close the dialog.

  • Updated money processing dialogs to include the patron's email address (when available) in the Email Receipt field, to quickly and easily send their receipt.

    • You must have email settings configured before you can send receipts and other notifications in this manner.

  • Patron History is now displaying the original checkout date for renewals.
Export & Import
  • Improved performance for an all-sites, all-items export from a centralized-catalog.
  • Improved support for the import of MARC data enhancement files from affiliates such as Mitinet. These are located under the "Special" category (new) in the Import window. In addition to simplifying ehe user interface and overall import and export processes, we also enhanced a number of features meant to preserve the state of circulation, usage counts, hold queue, reviews, and more when duplicate titles are merged as part of the work done to the data.

Inventory
  • Restored the capability to inventory by copy location.

Management
  • Increased length restrictions on copy location and copy notes fields. Locations are now limited to 32 characters and notes to 1000 characters.
  • Corrected an issue that was causing some edits to be reverted upon save if the user was switching between multiple fields while adding or modifying title records.
  • Updated the copy filter to reset between title selections, so copies for the last title viewed are not erroneously displayed when viewing additional records within the same session.
  • Improved a number of selections, including those for a single accession date.
  • New! Now you can update a patron's picture using your system's built-in camera or an external USB camera.

Preferences
  • For Centralized-Catalogs, the option to Advance Grades in the Grade Table Preferences has been enhanced to allow for advancement of patrons at all sites or a single specified site.

Researcher
  • Improved results when searching and sorting by series titles with non-filing leading articles.
  • Improved support for relative dates in search strings, allowing for queries such as new items added in the last 30 days.
    • Usage example: ((accession::#%today-30))
  • Added the ability to Alt/Option + Click on a term to search for that term directly. A standard click will continue to function as it has in the past, adding the term to the tags list for later use.
  • Enhanced search filters, adding a Clear Selection option for Study Programs.

Reports
  • Improved a number of selections, including those for a single accession date.
  • Added a Copy Policy selection to the Lost Items Notice.
  • Updated the Lost Copies report to include the ability to sort by the last name of the patron who lost the item.
  • Updated the Patron Credit Details report to only includes patrons with a credit balance.
  • Added an Operator Summary Report to make it easier to obtain information on those patrons who are configured to be system operators.
  • Corrected an error in Brief Analysis report replacement cost calculation.
  • Fixed the Expired In-Stock Holds report, so it is now working as intended.

System
  • Improved performance and reliability throughout the system.
  • Improved behavior for updating and restarting when running as a service on Mac or Windows.

Utilities
  • New Check Out utilities let you check out items in bulk.
  • New Reset Passwords Utility allows you to quickly reset the default password for a selection of patrons.
