Getting Started
How helpful was this page?
For specific patron-facing areas of Alexandria and certain styles, we partially comply with WCAG 2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). All components of Researcher (except Search and Bulletins), Self-Service, Activity, and Offline Mode are accessibility-friendly.
Here are some notable guidelines we currently follow in every patron-facing area:
- Offer keyboard-only access with a logical, cycle-back tabbing order
- Offer several ways to find pages (URL, through Researcher or Tools, and Explore panes)
- Use clear headings and labels
- Offer a visible and clear keyboard focus
- Use menus, icons, and buttons consistently
- Suggest fixes when users make errors
- Don't use images of text
Recommendations
To make Alexandria even more accessibility-friendly for your patrons, we suggest following these recommendations:
Use Researcher styles other than Seafoam.
Use Scout rather than Search while in Researcher.
Use Chrome as your internet browser.
If you use Safari and need to turn on tabbing navigation, go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced and make sure Press Tab to highlight each item on a webpage is checked.
