Log In to Alexandria

Last Updated: $action.dateFormatter.formatDateTime($content.getLastModificationDate())

Accessing Alexandria requires

Alexandria is a software as a service (SaaS); therefore, security is mandatory and is always enabled. Access to our software requires that the Username and Password[1] of a valid operator with the appropriate Security Group credentials be entered into the Log In dialog every time the program is launched.

If you would like to immediately access the Log In dialog (or log into our software as a different operator), you must Refresh your browser window; this is typically done by pressing <F5> or using the (Ctrl+R) (+R) combination on your keyboard.

When the Log In dialog appears, enter the appropriate Username and Password and click Log In to access Alexandria.

The Username and Password that you enter during Log In will be recorded to the Transaction Log as well as all failed login attempts.

Reset Password

If you forget your password or would like to reset it, click the Can't access your account? link at the bottom of the Log In dialog. When the Reset Password dialog appears, enter your username, barcode, or email address associated with your account. If you have your Email settings properly configured, you should promptly receive an email that allows you to reset your username and password. If you do not have an email address associated with your account, please see your librarian or System Administrator.

Help Icon

In the upper right corner of Log In dialog box is the Help Icon, it is represented by a question mark symbol (“”). Clicking this button will open a web browser to this Support Center page for further assistance with logging into the program.

Messages Box

For our Cloud-Hosted customers there will be an additional dialog box below Log In. This is the Messages dialog box. This feature is how COMPanion will send program notices such as updates and maintenance to our hosted customers.

Accessing Alexandria as a Different Operator

There are times when you will need to access Alexandria as a operator[2] other than the one who is currently logged into the program; especially if you are required to perform a specific task that the current operator does not have the security permissions to accomplish.

For example, if a Student Aide is currently logged in, you may have to log in as the District/Library Administrator to change a preference—a task for which the default Student Aide does not have authorization.

Here's how you can access Alexandria as a different operator:

Refresh (Ctrl+R) (+R) your browser window. When the Alexandria Log In dialog appears, enter the appropriate Username and optional Password and click Log In to access the software as an entirely new operator. This way, if the operator who is currently logged into the program doesn't have the security permissions to access or change specific options, information, or preference tabs, you may Log In as an operator that does.

First Time Log In, Authentication, and Operator Creation

Security is mandatory and permanently enabled. Your very first operator is a District Administrator with the equivalent Security Group access. If you're Cloud-Hosted, your District Administrator was created for you; if you're Self-Hosted, a valid Alexandria registration is the only authentication needed to create your initial District Administrator operator.

The District Administrator security group is only meaningful for Centralized Catalog multi-library collection licenses; for all other licenses, the District Administrator security group is analogous to the Library Administrator.
