Log In to Alexandria

Last Updated: $action.dateFormatter.formatDateTime($content.getLastModificationDate())

  1. Open the Alexandria app on your computer browser
  2. On the Log In screen, enter your username and password.
  3. Click Log In.

Alexandria is a software as a service (SaaS); therefore, security is mandatory and is always enabled. Access to our software requires that the username and password of a valid operator with the appropriate security credentials be entered on the Log In screen every time the program is launched.

If you would like to immediately access the Log In dialog (or log into our software as a different operator), you must Refresh your browser window; this is typically done by pressing <F5> or using the (Ctrl+R) (+R) combination on your keyboard.

When the Log In dialog appears, enter the appropriate Username and Password and click Log In to access Alexandria.

The Username and Password that you enter during Log In will be recorded to the Transaction Log as well as all failed login attempts.

First Time Log In, Authentication, and Operator Creation

Security is mandatory and permanently enabled. Your very first operator is a District Administrator with the equivalent Security Group access. If you're Cloud-Hosted, your District Administrator was created for you; if you're Self-Hosted, a valid Alexandria registration is the only authentication needed to create your initial District Administrator operator.

The District Administrator security group is only meaningful for Centralized Catalog multi-library collection licenses; for all other licenses, the District Administrator security group is analogous to the Library Administrator.

Accessing Alexandria as a Different Operator

There are times when you will need to access Alexandria as a operator[2] other than the one who is currently logged into the program; especially if you are required to perform a specific task that the current operator does not have the security permissions to accomplish.

For example, if a student aide is currently logged in, you may have to log in as the District or Library Administrator to change a preference setting—a task for which the aide does not have authorization.

Here's how you can access Alexandria as a different operator:

Refresh (Ctrl+R) (+R) your browser window. When the Alexandria Log In dialog appears, enter the appropriate Username and optional Password and click Log In to access the software as an entirely new operator. This way, if the operator who is currently logged into the program doesn't have the security permissions to access or change specific options, information, or preference tabs, you can log in as an operator that does.

  1. Refresh your browser window to see the Log In window.
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Click Log In.

Reset Your Login Password

If you forget your password or would like to reset it, click Can't access your account? at the bottom of the Log In dialog. When the Reset Password dialog appears, enter your username, barcode, or email address associated with your account. If you have your Email settings properly configured, you should promptly receive an email that allows you to reset your username and password. If you do not have an email address associated with your account, please see your librarian or System Administrator.

Accessing Alexandria

Cloud-Hosted

To access Alexandria, launch the most current version of Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer. In the web browser’s address field (typically located in the top-left corner of the window), enter your library’s server domain name by a forward slash (“/”) and the name of the online interface or module that you want to access (e.g. http://www.yoursite.goalexandria.com/librarian).

Self-Hosted

To access Alexandria, enter the IP address (or server domain name) and (optional) port number of your Data Station followed by a forward slash (“/”) and the name of the online interface or module that you want to access (e.g. http://123.456.78.910:80/librarian).

IT Controller

If you’re running an IT Controller, you’ll need to follow your (optional) port number with a valid serial number to access a single site (e.g. http://123.456.78.910:80/7777777/librarian); to access the Controller’s “/admin” service, you forego the site-specific serial number (e.g. http://123.456.78.910:80/admin).

Accessing Online Interfaces & Modules

You can access many different parts of Alexandria through your default web browser. To do this, enter your server domain name (or IP address), (optional) port number, and (optional) serial number of your Data Station followed by forward slash (“/”) and the name of the online module you want to access into the address bar of your web browser (e.g. http://123.456.78.910:80/preferences).

Be sure to bookmark the web addresses of your favorite online modules for future access!

Here’s just a few extensions that you can append to your server domain name (or IP address) to access their associated modules through a web browser:

/imports/reviews
/inventory/scout
